Eng. Salvatore MONACO’s experience in shipping began in the ’70s, during navigation periods abroad, and continued until after his graduation with collaborations with the most important naval engineering firms in Genoa. These experiences were the bases for the formation of MONACONAVI, Naval and Mechanical Engineering Studio, which started its activities in Genoa in 1985 and moved to Cagliari in ’91.

During the 80’s Eng. MONACO dealt mainly in the management of supply vessels for oil platforms and also in the field of marine pollution. At the end of the decade, he took up the technical direction of C.N. ORTONA NAVI for the construction of maxi yachts and LPG transport units (LNG). Working for the Ministry of Interiors and the Civil Protection Agency, he also managed the maintenance of the fleet of vessels for the National Firefighter’s Corps.

The 90s saw the development of technical consulting and design of naval installations and facilities and cargo handling systems, as well as technical assessments on behalf of Shipowners, Courts (CTUs), P&I clubs, and Insurance companies.

By the mid 90s, he had begun to gain experience in design and certification within the leisure boating industry, as well as in drafting Owner’s manuals.

In particular, from ‘96 to ‘98, MONACONAVI provided technical advice to MacGregor ITA for their control of aft ramp construction or the Grimaldi Line Ferries, for Fincantieri S.p.A.

By the end of the 90s, and into 2005, more experience was gained with foreign project management dealing with ship revamping orders in Iran and the United Arab Emirates.

With the enactment of the Legislative Decree 271/99, Eng. Monaco began to provide professional services in the field of safety for maritime workers and has become a lecturer in various professional training courses.

MONACONAVI has overseen the nationalization of ro-ro passenger transport vessels, through regulatory adaptation and engineering, planned adaptation for people with reduced mobility (PRM), and the design of dedicated onboard lifts.

Since the 2000s, further experience was gained, and continues still in collaboration with a team of professionals, in both hull development for the recreational sector and the development of the current targets for Energy Saving, Green Propulsion, and the Green Plus (y) RINA certification.

In this last decade, MONACONAVI  has added further activities to its curriculum, such as Corporate Auditing (in China, India, and Eastern Europe), a technical collaboration with the Luna Rossa team and New Zealand team, and projects which support Astaldi S.p.A in the port of Taranto
